Cannot Copy to CD

I can read disks on my CD Player, but cannot copy to Cd any more. When I
click on "My Computer" I get only part of the screen and the program hangs
up. Once today, the screen did open and I copied one file to the staging
area ready to copy to a CD. When I tried to copy that to the CD/RW, the
program stopped responding.
I have been using Ashampoo Burning Studio 6 to burn disks. When it could
not work, I tried using the Windows XP way and generally have been stopped at
the first step, "open My Computer".
I ran McAfee's disk cleanup yesterday and it wiped out all old Restore
points so I can't go back to before this started. I also downloaded Service
Pack 3 yesterday, but it had no effect on the problem. Is there an update to
the software in that part of Windows XP that might help me?

Youre problem(s) exist in youre 3rd party software, conflicting with what
xp already can do.Try removing the cd writing software,as for mcafee, that
software by itself is a joke,& if it now comes with diskcleanup, give it the
deep
six.Since when does anti-virus software have/get the ability to manage the
OS hard drives.....

So, you say that XP can natively do all the CD-writing tasks that
third-party CD-writing software can do? Yeah, right. I suppose everyone with
XP who uses Word is similarly misguided because WordPad is a fully-fledged
word-processing application that's completely up to any WP task required of
such.

PS: For the seond time, it's "your"!!

In uninstalled the 3rd party software before I tried to do it the Microsoft
way. I'm not pleased with McAfee either, but it's paid for and has been
effective as an anti-virus program. It was once the only anti-virus software
that came with a Windows based machine.

This morning I booted my PC from scratch and tried to copy the file Windows
was holding in its secret place to a CD. It took 15 minutes but eventually
"My Computer" opened completely and I was able to click on "copy to disk".
Then it took another long time to tell me the disk was full (it was a brand
new Memorex disk). I switched disks to another new one and, again after a
very long time it took another step in the process. Finally, it says it did
copy the file to disk.

I checked using Windows Explorer and found the file on the CD. So now my
problem is "Why is it working so extremely slowly?"

Other operations are not working slowly, just "My Computer" and copy to disk.

Most likely you have a conflict between windows native ability and a third
party software. You may also have a damaged/conflicting driver for the CD
ROM drive. Start with cleaning out other writing software and see what
happens. Pete
