Duplicate name exists on network

When I start up my computer and the log in screen appears with the users of
the computers, a window pops up and says a duplicate name exists on the
network. How can I fix this? Why is this happening? If anyone can please
help, I would greatly appreciate it. Thanks!!!

sounds like maybe you need to change your computer name, each computer needs
its own unique name ... Same Group name but computer names must be
different. Otherwise how would it know which computer to talk to when
someone connects to \\MikesComputer and some other computer has the same
name

Thanks for the response. How do I change the name?

Go to the Control Panel and open the System applet. Click on the
Computer Name tab. Click the button to change the name and change it to
something unique. Apply, Ok, reboot.
