a duplicate name exists on the network

I just got a new laptop and whenever I turn it on, I get a little popup
window that says "a duplicate name exists on the network."

I have tried changing my computer name and I also went to the network
connections and did the repair, but it is still popping up.

How do I get this window to go away?

Thanks

Thanks for the reply, but I am not sure what you mean by "change the
name."
I changed the name of my computer but it still does it.
Sorry-I am not a computer gal. :-(
Thanks a lot for the help.

are you sure you didnt change computer comment?
to see computers name, do start- run -cmd
hostname

that gives you current computer name.

How do I change the hostname? You are right, I just changed it by
right-clicking on the hard drive, but that is what a "computer person"
told me to do.

Hi,

Well, you stated initially that "I have tried changing my computer name", so
I assumed you knew how to. Right click on "My Computer" and select
properties. On the Computer Name tab, click "change". Pick a new name, 'ok'
your way out, then reboot.

Control Panel>System>Computer Name

See where you can change the name. Do not change that the computer is
not on a domain, just the computer name. Reboot.
