Hi,
A friend of mine just bought a new Lenovo (IBM) Thinkpad Z60m notebook
computer. He has asked me to help him install a dual boot system with WinXP
and Win98.
The problem is that the computer comes with XP pre-installed and uses a
sophisticated method of recovery and setup - with a 3GB partitioned
pre-desktop area where it holds the backup clean XP system. My friend also
got a separate recovery CD with XP but it installs the same way - wiping out
the entire HD and repartitioning with the 3GB pre-desktop area.
I really have no idea as to what the correct procedure would be in order to
create a dual boot system with 98. Should I wipe everything clean using
fdisk, then install 98 and finally XP from a different CD? Then how will I
have all of the accompanying programs that are automatically installed
through the IBM recovery CD?
Should I instead use the existing XP install, create a new partition for 98
using PartitionMagic and install 98? Will it even work with the first
partition being NTFS?
I have never encountered this specific situation, so any assistance offered
will be greatly appreciated...
Many thanks in advance,
Ido
