dual boot XP

What are the ramifications of dual booting a XP notebook, Senario: IBM
installed XP Pro, I would like to size the partition in half (Partition
magic) and install XP pro on the second partition.
My dilema: Install of XP on 2 partition, IBM provides a recovery image on a
hidden partiition for a system restoration. In the event I am able to work
out creating 2 functional XP partitions with the halp of IBM support Team.
What will happen with XP activation along with Office activation. Granted the
original partitio nwill be ok, but the 2nd????.
You see we have a many students that own these notebooks that, do eith them
what they please. by creating 2 partitions we will be able to support the
school side and leave the support for the home partition to the student. On
the school side, we'll try to lock it down as tight as possible, so that
software changes and especially spyware doen't effect the school side part.
Please any advise would be greatly appreciated.

You'll have to ask IBM support about this. Generally,
each installation of Windows XP, though installed on
the same computer, requires a separate license. Same
hold true for Microsoft Office.

If I am able to use the recovery partition and resore to a selected second
partition wll the activation still be required.
I fear that IBM support will point me to MS and vice versa.

Thanx in advance

You are probably correct. Most manufacturer's seem to only want to help you
if your computer is in the state it was when shipped. The cost, of course,
is the second copy of XP Pro. You need to determine from IBM what their
policy towards the hardware will be if you reconfigure the hard drive.
