Downloading Critical Updates

Rex

I have a very slow internet dial-up connection at home.
Living in the country I have no choice. I usually
downtime program upgrades using my work computer. It is
much faster.

Is there anyway to download the service packs and
critical updates at work, so I can burn to a cd to
install it on my home computer.

Thanks in advance.

Yes - you can download the upgrades as individual files. These can be found
by going into the windows update catalogue (an option on the windows update
screen)

Greetings

This has become a problem that Microsoft is aware of, and is working hard to
get better solutions for those who dont or cant have high speed access.
Right now you have a few opitions. You may order SP1(a) on CD or download
the full thing. And you may donwload all the critical patchs from the
Windows Catalog.

Windows Catalog

Download Windows XP SP1(a)
http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/pro/downloads/servicepacks/sp1/sp1lang.asp

Order Windows XP SP1(a) on CD.

AutoPatcher XP (Third Party Solution, Great if you can get a working link)

Hello!

Absolutely correct, and I'll add one thing. I've seen instances where you
don't see the option for Windows catalog when you go to
http://windowsupdate.microsoft.com

If you don't see this option on the left menu under "See Also" then click on
the "Personalize Windows Update" option, and check the box to display the
Windows Catalog link.

Get the download of SP1a (if your XP CD does not already include it)
from
http://www.microsoft.com/WindowsXP/pro/downloads/servicepacks/sp1/default.asp

(on the right of the page - a 130 MB download).

Then go to
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/...00-D7BE-48E3-ABCC-961602BD72C2&displaylang=en

Which will probably wrap - or link to it as the 'Download the 826939
package' about a quarter way down
http://support.microsoft.com/?scid=kb;en-us;826939

Which rolls up most other items.

Then go to Windows Update and on the left Windows Update Catalog (you
may need to use 'Personalise' to have that offered). In that go to Find
Updates for systems; in that Windows XP SP1, select Critical Updates and
service packs, and choose there to put in a download basket. Get the
Cumulative Security update for Internet Explorer - Q 824145. I would
not bother with any of the stuff on .NET framework unless you know you
will be dealing with programs that want to use it - and as yet it is
mainly for development
