Does not recognize device

I just bought a JVC GRD271us. I also purchased a USB to Firewire cable (4
pin). I have a Dell 3Ghz 800Mhz FSbus. When I plug the camera into the
computer I get the message USB Device Not Recognized. When I try to
troubleshoot it says No Drivers found. When I try to capture with Movie
Maker I get: A video capture device was not detected. Can someone help me
connect these together? Can I use WinDV with a USB to IEEE1394?
First questions from everything I have read so far:
I have USB 2.0
There where no drivers with the software included with the camera.
JVC Site does not show any drivers for download.
Any Help would be very much appreciated!!

USB to IEEE cables have a tendency to not work properly just as the old
serial to PS2 adapters sometimes did and sometimes didn't work. You would be
far better off to get a IEEE card for the computer and then connect direct
with a firewire cable.

I think you're a bit confused, there is no such thing as "USB to IEEE1394"
cable (Unless you mean an external hub?) USB and 1394 are incompatible.
I think you may have mistook the male-female type USB cable?
Your Dell pc has seemingly good spec, so it's a safe assumption it has
a firewire/1394 port. Just purchase a 4pin -to- 6pin Firewire/1394 cable.
Then it will all function correctly.

I am having the sam issue with my jvc gr270 did you find a solution yet? I
have it down to where I know mine is with in the setting or need or a driver
for the firewire to see but haven't found of located my thing needed to find.
My computer see the camera and tells me no driver. I am unable to check with
another puter using the firewire due to none are avaible around to check. the
MB Manufactor has been no help along with the camera man. and well my real
computer guru is up in heaven playing now and I need help. I have been only
playing with this since Dec when I got my camcorder. My dad has the 250 I did
his on to his puter and plug and play had no problem that is why I got this
now I am stuck... Thanks

I am having the same problem with Movie Maker. I have a high-end dual core PC
with a FireWire card installed. At first when I connected my Panasonic
PV-GS120 camcorder to the firewire cable, Movie Maker had no problem
capturing video. All of a sudden it stopped working. A do not have the driver
for the camera installed, I bought my camera used and it did not have the
installation CD (which probably had the driver on it). I know the computer is
recognizing that my camera has been plugged in because it does the "beep"
sound that happens when hardware is connected. Any idea about what might be
causing this?
thanks,
Kurt
