DirectX 9 Install Problem

Hi,

I need to upgrade from DX 8.1 to 9 in order to run WinDVD 7.
I've installed via the webinstaller and the redistributable setup, both of
which install normally.
However, after the installations, if I run dx diag, it still shows DirectX
8.1.
No error messages are reported, the installations run without a hitch.
Programs that require DX9 report DX8 as well. after the 'normal' installation.

Any help would be appreciated.

That's odd, as SP2 should have automactically updated directx to 9.0c.

Paul,

Found the problem. The Directx files were being copied successfully, but the
registry version key remained the same. I manually changed the key to reflect
the version info for DX9.0c (4.09.0000.0904) and everything is working fine.

Why the registry wasn't being updated is another problem, though all other
applications don't seem to have trouble reading or writing to it.

In addition, manual or forced changes using Regedit work as well.

Direct X 9.0c is supposed to be part of the Service Pack 2 install. You also
need to install a Direct X 9 compatible video card driver, if you have not
already done so. You should be able to get this video card driver from your
video card's manufacturer.
