Direct X Problem

My daughter just purchased the Sims 2 PC game. After over an hour of
installation and attempting to run the program we received the following
error:

"Failed to find any DirectX 9.0c compatible graphics adapters in this
system. Please make sure you have a Direct X 9.0c compatible graphics
adapter and have installed the latest drivers provided by the manufacturer.
The application will now terminate."

Being somewhat computer illiterate, I have no idea what this means. Could
anyone help me with what the problem is and HOW I fix it (in simple English,
please).

Most possibly, the PC you have, does have a built in Video which is
not compatible to later version of DirectX. You may need to take your
PC to a PC repair shop and ask them to plug in a (cheaper and DirectX9c
compatible) Video card, and switch off the built in Video.

If this latest DirectX9c does not load properly and won't let you run
the Sims 2 PC game, you may need to buy a Video card. Most games
