Direct X Issue

My daughter just purchased the Sims 2 PC game. After about an hour or so of
installing the 4-disk set and upon trying to start the program we received
the following error message: "Failed to find any DirectX 9.0c compatible
graphics adapters in this sytem. Please make sure you have a DirectX 9.0c
compatible graphics adapter and have installed the latest drivers provided by
the manufacturer. The application will not terminate."

Being rather computer illiterate, I have no idea what all this means. Could
someone help me and give me some idea of what I need to do and HOW to do it?

Thank you so much for your time.

Hi Cheri,

Basically, what it means is that your display drivers are out of date. The
source for an update is either the computer manufacturer (better), or the
video card manufacturer (best), but not Windows Update.

It could be 1,2 or 3 things, any or all of 3.

1. You fisrt need a video adpater that undersatnds dx9c.
That would mean a very new one that has an AGP slot.
You computer's AGP x speed has to be at least the 4X and the voltage must
match the AGP voltage. 1.5 or .8.
The AGP slot mechanisum is different for newer 8X cards so measure twice.
(Don't get a clone brand, get the real brand.)
(I may be wrong, but the game is saying it wants to use dx9c, not that you
just need dx9c installed.)

2. you need to install dx9c. That is the default of XP SP2.
I can only guess that SP1 would have a windows update for it.

3. Then you need a video driver for the adpater that uses dx9c.(This may be
a problem for older cards.)

Go buy her a new VD and a big honkin' ldc monitor cause girls really like
that game. :)
