Direct Cable Connection

I am attemptint to network witha parallel cable, a desktop with XPpro and a laptop with win 98 se.

The problem is withthe XP desktop. I have switched on the RIP, and monitored the event log, this is the error.
The Routing and Remote Access service terminated with service-specific error 2147483720 (0x80000048).

For more information, see Help and Support Center at http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/events.asp.

I do not to choose the connection port etc, it just says

Incoming connections depend on the rpouting and remote access service which is unable to start. for more info check the system event log.

Any suggestions.

Don't try it with Windows XP. It's worthless. First of
all you must buy the appropriate cable because you need a
special parallel cable for DCC to work. Then make a
startup disk for both your machines and work with DOS.
It's very simple. In the startup disk you must include
the interlnk.exe file for the one computer and the
intersvr.exe for the other. You must know how to
configure your config.sys though. If you want more
information email me. Also I can send you the
interlnk.exe and intersvr.exe files.

Thanks for the response. When you recomend dos will, I have to use dos all
the time for file transfer etc, or is this a simple configuration job, that
will subsequently allow windows to boot over the top. On the cable will an
extension cable do, or must it be bi directional. How can you tell the
difference

I found a good site on networking DCC called WOWW.com, but it is still not
enough. You could take a look and see what you think
