different appearance

My computer crashed and i am using WIn XP SP2. Now the appearance of my
desktop and all application is not the same. The font is different on the
desktop and in applications like Excell, internet explorer...

I have tried things in the appearance properties like advised in other
threads but still no luck.

Can anyone please advice?

What do you mean by 'My computer crashed?' Why did it crash? What were the
error messages? Is the only change the font change? Is the font change
only for screen displays, or does it affect printed documents? Is Cleartype
enabled? Are any originally installed fonts missing (Control Panel ->
Fonts ->)?
