dell axim VPN sync problems

I am trying to remotely sync my Dell Axim using a VPN host on my home
computer.

I have Comcast broadband coming into a d-link modem to a linksys
BEFSR41 V3 router to a WRT54G Linksys wireless router (with static IP)
to my PC (with static IP and incoming connections enabled) I have port
forewarding on port 1723 on the first router pointing to my wireless
router's IP, then port forewarding of the same port from my wireless
router to my PC's IP. On both routers, I have DDNS enabled for
dynDNS.org and all VPN passthroughs enabled.
I am using a dynDNS.org account since it is to my understanding that
comcast has dynamic IP's.
I don't know what I am doing wrong. Help please.

Well the issue may be the GRE Protocol 47 traffic. Even though you have
"PPTP Pass Through" enabled on each router I have found, particularly with
my old BEFSR41 V1, that the router firmware version made a big difference
between being able to connect a PPTP VPN session or not. Some firmware
versions worked and some did not.

Using a remote XP box you can use the test detailed in the "VPN Traffic"
section of this page to test this...Look near the end...

Why are you using two routers?

wih the client side, I got "Error 10060 calling connect<>:
WSAETIMEOUT: Connection timed out"
and on the Host side, I got "Error 10048 Binding Socket:
WSAEADDRIVEINUSE: Address already in use"

All of the firmware is up-to-date.

how do i check to see if GRE Protocol 47 is working properly?

I'm using 2 routers because i'm a college student and there are five
other computers, xbox, and PS2 in my house

this is what I get from the VPN test:

on my host computer:

Error 10048 binding Socket:
WSAEADDRINUSE: Address already in use
Created socket for GRE protocol test
Listening on PROTOCOL 47 for incoming GRE packets...


on the client computer:

Initializing WinSock...
Obtaining host information...
Successfully resolved server's host information

successfully connected to server using TCP port 1723 <pptp>
sending data to server

waiting for a reply to the data which was just sent...
Received reply. Reply contains the following text:

it never returned what I typed on the client side and I never received
the packets on the host side. I am quite perplexed :-/

It means both TCP Port 1723 and GRE Protocol 47 traffic in not getting
through whatever firewall/NAT/router between the remote PC and the VPN
server PC.

Can you test over your local LAN to see if that works?

Additionally did you...

"stop the Routing and Remote Access service using the Routing and Remote
Access or Services snap-ins. This step ensures that Pptpsrv.exe can use TCP
port 1723 and IP protocol 47."

....on the server PC before running the test?
