Hello,

Does anyone know where the associations between a particular media type and
it's player/viewer are kept? The reason I ask: I'm having trouble with WMP,
and I'd like to replace it. Problem is, I can't figure out where IE looks
for the player. I do know it's not the file associations managed in Windows
Explorer. Can anyone point me in the right direction? Somewhere in the
registry, perhaps?

System info: Win2000 SP4, IE6, all current critical patches applied

Thanks for your help.

to the best of my knowledge the file association types
are kept with eah player you have on the computer.
example you can set windows media to play wav files music
cd's et. open the options menu for the players you have
on your computer and select the file types that you would
like that player to play.....

I hear you, and I tried that. However, if I point IE to a music link and
click it (say, a WMP live streaming URL) IE always seems to invoke WMP.
Now, if I call up my alternative player and paste the URL into it the alt
player will connect and work. My problem is that I want IE to use the alt
player by default, and I can't seem to find where IE keeps it's "media
player" defaults.
