DCPROMO Problems while removing DC

Hi

I have a DC which i want to demote so that the domain is removed from my
forest. This was a test domain which I have pointed to itself for DNS in
addition to pointing to the FOREST DNS server. In both cases when I run
dcpromo and try to remove the domain I get the following error message:

operation failed because:
the directory service failed to replicate off changes made locally
the DSA operation is unable to proceed because of a DNS lookup failure.

If I look at the DNS server on the forest i do not see the domain and
associated records for the domain I wish to remove. The same applies to the
domain I am trying to remove, I do not see the domains for the rest of the
forest. I am not sure this has anything to do with anything but I thought I
would throw it out there.

Any thoughts? I have gone through a number of MS fixes including:

http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;263624

but still am striking out.

Thanks!

If the SRV records are missing then dcpromo will fail. After you have
verified that the DCs in the test domain are pointing to the right DNS
server you should run ipconfig /registerdns and restart netlogon to force
them to register their records. The zone must be set to allow dynamic
updates and the DCs must be configured to dynamically register records in
DNS. Once the records are there you should be able to demote the DC.

Which DNS server should I point this DC to? The forest DNS? If so how do I
get a copy of the test.com domain entries to the forest DNS server?

Thanks!
