Cyrillic script fails to work in WordPad

At WordPad - I can't get the cyrillic script to work. I click 'Format' -
'Font' - then scroll 'Script' to 'cyrillic' - whereupon a demonstration
sample of cyrillic script appears... then I click 'OK'. 'cyrillic' then
appears as the script of choice, ready for me to type a message into WordPad.
But when I hit a key - 'Cyrillic' disappears to be replaced by 'Western' -
and all I can type is western script.

How can I fix it so the cyrillic script remains for me to use it in a message?

No worries - problem solved after a couple of hours of trial and error.
