Times new roman in cyrillic appears as square boxes

This is real extrange. Times new roman in cyrillic appears as square
boxes. It doesn't occur with italic, bold or italic-bold. I tried to
remove the complete family of times new roman, roman, times, and
reinstall them. But.... nothing.
I have Office 2003 SP2 installed, The only solution I found is to
replace this font by other, like trebuchet. But, this solution is
disgasting, because I have to work with files I receive from Russia, in
Times New Roman!!!!
Can you help me?

I had such issue with Arial on my XP... The only way I've found to fix
it was to remove arial.ttf and bring arial.ttf from work from Windows
2000 machine
