CPU 100% after win 2000 update

Hi since auto downloading last two MS updates onto my MS
Win 2000 Pro Laptop it is as slow as a snail. In the task
manager it says that the CPU is running at 100% so I
checked the Processes and there is one process hogging
the CPU, namely 'SYSTEM'. It is constantly running at '99'
I tried running in safe mode to see if the prob would be
bypassed but unfortunately no.
Anyone any ideas on how to sort this out?
Thanks
Shaun

See the section "Windows 2000" in the link above, it
might apply to you.

Here is the fix:
KB article 841382: "Your Windows 2000-based computer stops responding, you
cannot log on to Windows, or your CPU usage for the System process
approaches 100 percent "

Frustrated!

Been here and tried this link. No link to mentioned
hotfix for downloading and the workaround does not work!
Anyone else have some suggestions? Getting pretty tired
of this!

Hi

As the article states, you need to call Microsoft Product Support Services to
obtain it (outside the US, customers should contact their local Microsoft
subsidiary.). The support call will be be free as long as you refer to the
Knowledge Base Article number (841382) and ask for nothing more.

The workaround for the issue when caused by Ipsecw2k.sys may not apply to
you.
Please contact Microsoft Support to obtain the hotfix as indicated in the
article:

"To resolve this problem immediately, contact Microsoft Product Support
Services to obtain the hotfix.
For a complete list of Microsoft Product Support Services phone numbers and
information about support costs, visit the following Microsoft Web site:
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=fh;[LN];CNTACTMS"

Don't worry, if you call in for only the hotfix, there will be no support
charge.
