One day i turned on my pc and i got the following error message in the lower
right of my taskbar: "Window-Corrupt File: The file or directory C:\Windows
is corrupt and unreadable. Please run the Chkdsk utility."
This message appears everytime i run an application. I have run chkdsk but
it doesnt do anything nor does it offer any solutions. What can i do?

I'm thinking if this were accurate, then windows wouldn't run at all.
I'm suspecting some kind of malware.
You said when you run chkdsk it doesn't do anything, is this an accurate
statement
or are you saying it runs and doesn't find any errors, or are you saying it
won't run
when I attempt to start it, please be accurate in your statements.

So Does Chkdsk run or not? and shouldn't this be scandisk under windows
device management??

Windows appears to run perfectly normally with the exception of the error
message everytime an application is ran. I went to run>chkdsk and it searches
for errors and says there are no errors. I have not tried to run scandisk.
Also, i have run McAfee AntiVirus and Windows Defender and they have found no
malware.

There is no Scandisk in XP, only in Win9x/ME. If Chkdsk didn't find any
errors (and review the information at the link below to make sure you
ran Chkdsk correctly) then test the hard drive with a utility from the
drive mftr.'s website. Download the file and make a bootable floppy or
cd with it. Boot with the media and do a thorough test. If the drive
has physical errors, replace it.

If the drive tests OK, my next step would be to test the RAM.
