computer lagging- help!

I have a P-4 2ghz computer with over half a gig of ram,
yet my pc still lags at commands like right clicking or
clicking on a drop menu. I have tried to end every task
that i thought could be slowing me down, but it doesnt
help. If anyone can help it would be much appreciated!

No discussion of slow performance should begin with any user until they have
implemented all the recommendations described here...
