Computer keeps freezing

My 5 month year old computer keeps "freezing" on me. By
freeze, I mean I can't hit alt-ctrl-del or escape or
anything. I can't even turn my computer off with the
power button; I have to hit the restart button, then let
it boot, then I can hit the power button. It starts up
fine, and then randomly and not always at the same time
freezes. It seems to happen when it starts using many
resources (i.e. starting/playing a game, installing
software), but sometimes I'll be doing nothing and it
will happen. Steps I have taken to fix the problem, but
haven't worked: redoing harddrive, virus update. Can
anyone diagnose this problem?

Unfortunately, in 99 cases out of 100... Event Viewer
isn't going to show you anything. Win XP just freezes.
Remember how Windows 95 kept crashing? So M$FT said
that was all fixed with Windows 98... but it wasn't.
Then they told us that was all fixed with Windows XP...
but didn't tell us that it just froze, instead of BSODing.
Well, Microsoft is just like P.T. Barnum... and we are
the ever willing suckers.

Remove any programs you dont use. Run anti-spyware applications. Delete
all temp and temp internet files. Then defrag.
