Computer just keeps rebooting.

The last thing that was done was type ncpa.cpl right after my friend turned
on the computer and logged in. I was trying to help over the phone to get a
wireless network card settings correct then bam the computer restarted. So I
told him to go ahead and start normally and it did it again right after the
xp opens up restart. Not always at the exact same point because if you leave
the user choices on the screen by not selecting one it will shortly reboot.
Even if you go into safe mode it restarts or if you choose last known good
configuration it restarts. I think I have tried all of the choices for safe
mode networked and such and now I am not sure what to try now????? All Help
is greatly appreciated.

Is the PC up to date as far as security patches go, it could be a virus. Or
if you have added new hardware for the wireless network I would remove it
and try again.

I have removed the wireless card and all USB and the rest of the pci stuff
but I don't think it matters because the computer is not even in windows
long enough to know. The computer was running a current NAV and I am not
exactly sure about patches ands such. Now I am wondering if a repair install
would be the next step? Should I worry about all of the apps and data if I
do the repair install??? Never done one with XP? Thanks Again

Hi,
I can only speak from experience the official advice is to backup all data
just in case. If you boot from the CD and do a repair installation all your
programs and data will be intact but you will need to carry out critical
updates again from MS and re-install SP1 if it is not part of the XP CD.

Hope it goes well
Best of luck

The repair install did not find my original XP install for repair? Anything
that may help that besides bootcfg?

No sorry, the repair install from the CD should find your current
installation. Only other thing is if the hard drive is not connected via
standard IDE (i.e. RAID or SATA) then XP will need the drivers to load
before the repair install. I think it calls for you to press F6 for 3rd
party drivers.

Failing that have you considered a system restore without the card fitted.
