Windows XP wont Start after disk defragmenting

Hello was just wondering does anybody know anything about this problem. I
defragmented my hard drive and restarted it as it asked me to and when it was
restarting a message came up that windows has encountered a problem and gave
me 5 options which were 1. safe mode, 2. safe mode with command, 3.safe mode
with network boot, 4. last known good settings, 5. Start windows normally.
The first time i went with last known good setting and the logo of windows xp
came up on the screen as usual but after about 5 seconds it just turned
itself off and restarted. I tried all 5 options now and the same thing keeps
happening apart from the safe modes where a load of file names flash on the
screen for 5 seconds and it just restarts itself. I was wondering does
anybody know how to cure this problem. i wasnt issued with a windows cd
either when i bought the computer. thanks.

In your case, what you purchased originally wasn't enough to help with this
problem. You have some problem with your hard drive, and need tools to fix
it. If you can't find a boot disk, to enter the Recovery Console, you should
probably try to contact the seller of your system, for any warrantee that
might apply. They will probably tell you to 'restore to factory defaults'

If you have Recovery Console, try the command:
chkdsk /r

This download has some tools for that.
