Clear Type Tuning and Printer Installation

Susie,

I think I've found the solution to your missing Clear Type Tuning software.

1. Go to the weblink below:

http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/downloads/powertoys/xppowertoys.mspx

2. Look in right most column for "ClearType Tuner PowerToy".

3. Click on the setup.exe link under Clear Type Tuning.

4. Run the software.

5. Reboot

6. Once Windows XP is up, Start > Settings > Control Panel

You should have Clear Type Tuning in your control panel. Once you open the
Clear Type Tuning control panel, place a checkmark in the "Turn on Clear Type"
and then click on the "Start wizard" button. This will walk you through the
various settings. You can also click on the Advanced tab in Clear Type Tuning
to enable font smoothing.

When you get through, your laptop's readbility should be very improved. It even
works on traditional monitors such as mine but not to the exent is does on laptops.
Somehow, Microsoft has managed to manipulate fonts below the pixel level. On
laptop screens, it modifies laptop displays at the bit level.

I searched the web for reviews on your laptop. Nothing but praise! You got a great
laptop. The only concern was battery life when that big screen is used on batttery.
As long as it's connected to a power source, it's fantatic.

A tip: when you get your new printer, first delete all your old printer's software.
Then reboot to purge old printer drivers and software out of your system. Next,
disconnect the new printer from your laptop (or don't plug it in until you've installed
new software) before installing new printer software. Reboot to get new printer
software into your operating system. Then plug the new printer hardware into
your PC. You should get a USB warning that the system has detected a new
component (namely, the printer). Don't worry about it. All should work fine.

None of the newer printer software installs well if the printer is attached to the
system at software installation time. This goes for Epson, HP, Canon, etc.
