Change IP address on DC.

S

Skarlund

We have about 15 DC in the Domain with 36 Sites. What
happens if I change the IP address on a DC or more? How
will this affect AD, Sites, replication and clients? Is
there problem that I should be aware of, that I might
encounter? In which way should I approach this with no
impact on the Domain?

Thanks.

There is nothing that says you can't change the IP of a DC. What you need
to make sure of is that the change is made in DNS. If dynamic dns is
working properly and you are using AD-Integrated zones, the new information
will be replicated via AD replication. If the DC is a DNS server, you may
need to make a change in DHCP for clients that are configured to use this
server for their DNS server. Likewise, any machines with statically
configured DNS settings will have to be changed.
