How to create child domain in a different network?

Hi,

I have a main DC in site A, IP is 192.168.100.1
And now I want to setup a Child domain DC in site B. The network segment on
the site B is 192.168.99.X and I set the IP address for new child DC to
192.168.99.1
There are network connection(Leased Line 512K) between two site(A and B).

When I try to promo my Child domain DC in Site B, the error message is
prompted.
It says that " A domain controller for the domain "XXX" could not be
contacted."
I am sure there are network connection between two site A and B, and between
the new Server that I want to promoted to child domain DC in site B and the
main DC in site A.
Any suggestion on that case will be highly appreciated.

First, are the routers at each site configured so they can see each other?
Can you ping the original DC by name and by IP address from the server you
wish to promote to DC at the new site?

Second, do you have WINS running on both the original and new servers, and
do you have them replicating to each other? If not, you should.

Thanks Richard.
I have fixed by setting up DNS in both server.
Another question is I am now have a Parent domain mydomain.com in site A and
a child domain child.mydomain.com in site B.
So is it nessary to set up two site in active directory sites ans services
for Domain Replication?
And now My main DC in site A is a global catalog server by default.
May I set the child domain DC in site B to become a global catalog server?
Remind that the connection between site A and site B is 512K leased line.
Any suggesion will be highly appreciated.

If you have set up the parent/child domains correctly AD Sites and Services
should already reflect the reality of the network configuration. You may
want to consider whether or not you need a parent/child domain model - if
the purpose of the remote site is simply access to the main site and all
resources across both sites will be shared you may not want to set it up
this way.
