Change password problem

Site A (192.168.10.x): 2 Windows 2000 DC's and around 20 clients - Site B
(192.168.50.x): 1 Windows NT 4.0 BDC and 4 clients. A VPN connection has been
established between the two sites, network and directory browsing is enabled
between the two subnets. The domain has been just upgraded to Active
Directory and it's now running in Mixed Mode.

DNS has been reconfigured in Site B for proper authentication (IP addresses
of the DNS servers in Site A). However, clients in Site B still have the BDC
in their site as their preferred logon server. They now need to change
password but an error message says that the domain couldn't be contacted. I
suspect something is wrong with authentication and also BDC replication.

Any suggestions?

A BDC can not do password changes, so the problem is they can not contact a
Windows 2000 domain controller through the VPN and depending on the client
operating system they may need to be able to contact the pdc fsmo. What are
the operating systems on the clients?? See if you can ping the Windows 2000
domain controllers by IP address and fully qualified domain name as in
dc1.mydomain.com. If the computers are running Windows 2000 or XP Pro, run
the support tool netdiag on them to see if any problems are reported with dc
discovery, dns, or trust/secure channel. --- Steve
