cdrw/dvd drive doesn't read any kind of cd

I recently upgraded my windows xp home edition to windows xp professional and something went wrong. I guess it didn't go thru all the way so I used my windows xp home edition recovery program and it only recovered my hard drive not my optical drive. My cd drive is still running under windows xp pro edition so now it's not compatible with my os system. My system shows that I don't have an scsi installed, so can somebody help me. I greatly appreciate it.
