Samsung CDRW/DVD will not write to disc

I have Windows XP Professional SP2 stand alone home computer with a Samsung
CDRW/DVD SM 308-B. It runs & installs software CD's and DVD's ok.

Problem: On my home computer, I cannot copy data or other files from the HD
to the (high speed) CDRW disc; but I have no problems on my computer at work
that also runs XP Pro. I don't know which CD/DVD is installed at work. At
home, the Wizard says the "disc is not useable" and to try another, but I
just bought a new pack of High Speed CDRW's. The only files I tried were MS
Word processing files and a .wav file.

I haven't tried CD-R's because I am transferring data to give to others that
they may want to modify later.

Home computer does not have any third party CD/DVD RW software. The work
computer has Roxio installed but that didn't activate, I had success with the
Windows XP version.

I checked drivers and everything comes back OK, and updates come back as
current. Tried to uninstall - reinstall drivers but it did not change. I
also checked that IMAPI service was turned on - which is OK. Device was also
set to Record.

Any suggestions, or should I just pitch it and get new hardware?
Thank you for your help.

Check your email. You may wish to try this driver, obtained from
DriverGuide.com, bookmarked page is
http://members.driverguide.com/driver/detail.php?driverid=570282 . The file
obtained seems to NOT be one from Win XP! To verify my findings, you may
hafta register, free, and it is a good-to-register to site, as it has saved
my tail numerous times. Reason for email vs. posting to ng is for sending
the file via mail--not supposed to in ng. Luck to you, and HTH.
