cd rom and dvd palayers

My cd rom and dvd players do not work. I am able to open them up by pressing
the buttons. They are not listed when I go to My Computer. They are listed
under device manager on my control panel. Does anyone have a solution to
this. I can't restore my system from a disk because they don't work either.

I had the problem as well as Internet Networking stoppage, I couldn't
connect to my Ethernet Router. I ran System Restore at a previous restore
point from accessing HELP and then the files were restored and the system
rebooted and several folders I had deleted earlier returned with (2) added
to them but there was no content. The problem began just after I had ran
from Microsoft Site Updates installing the eight critical one was a worm
remover but no worm was found on my system just the same when it restarted
the drives vanished and no Internet. Everything working again right now.
