Unable to read CD Rom

My DVD/CD-Rom drive (Slimtype DVDRW SOSW-833S) does not play CD-Rom anymore.
When I insert a CD-ROM or Audio CD the light blinks continuously, and the
drive attempts to read the disc, but when I want to display its contents; it
appears empty (like no disc is inserted). Stangely, when I insert a DVD, this
problem is not present and I am able to play a DVD.

Hence, the drive does read DVD, but not CD-ROM. Is there anyone with the
same problem or someone that has a solution?

This kind of thing happens rather frequently. The drives use on laser to
read/write CDs and another to read/write DVDs.

Thus, your symptoms indicate that the CD laser is no longer working. The
only fix is a new drive.
