I recently tried to burn a cd. We use sonic when that didn't work we tried
windows media player. A pop-up came up saying to insert a blank cd-r. There
was one in the drive. I have a Sony DVD-RW and all it reads is dvd's, no
cd's, cd-rom's, or cd-r's. Has anybody had this problem?

The very FIRST thing I say is likely the reality...

Your drive's got problems. It is broken - one part of the eye, the part for
the Compact Disc, is broken. The part for the DVD (digital video disc) is
still functional. This is not at all abnormal, it happens far more often
than people might like to think, and if it is under warranty you can easily
get it replaced with most companies I've gone through - if not then replace
it.

On the other hand - this might not be a hardware issue. I STRONGLY suspect
it is though. The best way to test, in this case, would be to simply try the
drive in another PC.
