Windows XP wont read DVD-RW disks

I have Windows XP Service Pack 2, a Matshita DVD-RAM and an LG DVD-ROM drive.
My drives will read and write CD-R's and DVD-R's with no problem. However's
neither drive will recognise DVD-RW disks (my drive is -RW compatible). I get
the message 'windows cannot read from this disk...'. I have got the latest
updates and tried updating my firmware. I have use both Nero 5.5. and 6.6 as
my burning software. I can't format the disks as it wont read them in the
first place. Can anyone help?

Thanks but I've already been through that and there doesn't seem to be a
solution there to the problem I've got.

DVD-RAM drives can read and burn to DVD-R but not DVD-RW discs.

Your problem either relates to the device or the disk as you no doubt know.
Firstly have you tried with a different make of disk? Some machines are
disk 'sensitive'. If you have then I suggest you format (INCD) a disk on
another machine and burn a sample file then see whether you can read it with
the problem device. If you can read it then I suggest the fault lies with
the machine.
