Your DVD drive was supplied with an install CD for software usually called
"PowerDVD" or WinDVD". You can reinstall this to recover CD capacity.

Could be the laser for reading CDs died.

The drive has two lasers of different power to read DVDs and CDs. Sounds
like the CD laser has carked it. Don't bother to try getting it repaired,
it's much cheaper to buy a new drive.
