I have upgraded from ME to XP pro. I have a usb scanner connected which
worked perfectly before I upgraded. The scanner still shows in the device
manager and it says it is working correctly but it does not show up in the
control panel. I have tried reinstalling the driver to no avail. I have
also tried to update the driver but cannot find an updated driver for it.

It shows up in Device manager Imaging Devices as a 'USB flatbed
scanner-FU661E'.
I have also tried disconnecting it before I start up and reconnecting after
boot up but it will not work. I have tried it on another ME system and it
works fine.

1st the system also boots up fine but when i get to the desktop i can use
desktop icons almost straight away but the task bar takes about 1-2 minutes
to become usable.

Any help would be appreciated. Paul.

If you've loaded the most current driver you can find, it is not compatible
with XP and must be replaced. I did the same thing. I upgraded from ME to XP
Pro and my scanner still worked. Then I got a new hard drive and loaded a
fresh copy of XP from the same disk and my scanner would not work at all. I
had to replace it. Before you do, try to find a 2000 driver. A lot of times
they will work.

I think I found the answer
check out
Update for Windows XP Service Pack 2 (KB884020)
at microsoft. I bet your problem is sp2 not xp itself.

Not! The problem is an incompatible driver. Install a compatible driver,
no issues.

Thank you very much.
I have been looking for this solution to my scanner problem for months.
After downloading and installing KB884020 my scanner now works perfectly.
