can't connect usb scanner - again!

I know this is an old topic, but none of the older posts help me.

I have a Microtek 3600 USB scanner which has worked fine for years. All
of a sudden, XP SP2 does not detect it no matter what I do. I've
uninstalled and installed the software a half dozen times, (yes, I
disconnect the USB cable during the install!) and nothing. The "Scanner
test" utility shows "Scanner not connected". In Control Panel->Scanner
and Cameras, no device is listed, just "Add a device".

"Add or Remove Programs" shows Microtek Scanmaker as currently
installed, but the Microtek logo isn't there; just a generic windows
logo, and there's nothing in the Size column. The only other USB device
I have is an Epson C88 printer which works fine, all normal.

In Device Manager, under Imaging Devices there is a yellow "!" next to
USB Device (AHA!). Under Properties it says "The Device is Not
Configured Correctly (Code 1)".

Under Universal Serial Bus Controllers there are 4 Universal Host
Controllers listed, and 5 USB Root Hubs. Properties for each show all
devices working normally (!!). Is this normal and is it part of the
problem?

Finally, when I turn the Scanner on, the Found New Hardware Wizard
comes up. I've tried to install the software using the wizard, but I
get error messages that certain files are missing: LTWAIN.DS, if I
choose the "Microtek.inf" install option, or MSMUSD.DLL if I choose to
install "oem5.inf". I've searched my entire hard drive, the
installation disk and the XP disk, but no such files are found
anywhere.

What the hell is going on here, can anybody suggest anything!!??

Thanks.

Sorry, I don't remember your earlier posts.. so I might repeat myself.
But here's what I would try:

- Get the installer software, which includes Twain drivers.
http://support.microtek.com/downloa...slct_os=8&x=9&y=14&prod=4&slct_tbl=1&byctgy=1

- Remove all the software, go to Safe Mode and remove any scanner, then
reinstall.

- Look for specific patches for that scanner. I found these:

Well what do you know!? I did a repair install of XP and everything's
jake.

Well, not quite everything, but I'll put that in another thread. I had
already tried your suggestions, but thanks for the effort.
