Epson 3170 Scanner Problem

I have an Epson 3170 USB scanner that had been working properly for some
time with my XP Home Edition. Now when I turn it on, Windows recognizes it
as new hardware, indicating that it is, in fact, an Epson 3170. As part of
the failed
software installation attempt, I get the following error message: "The class
installer has denied the request to install or upgrade this device". My
Driver Signing Option is set to Warn. I've also tried using a different USB
cable and port, but to no avail.

Any suggestions?

I would check Epson's website for help, I would also see if their is a newer
driver and SW package, un-install the old then install the new.

I've already downloaded the latest driver, and uninstalled the original
driver, but it did not fix the problem.

What/where is the driver signing option?

I have an epson 1670 "perfection" and I had the devils own job
with driver installation.
I tried Epsons new driver from their site which would not install.
I went back to my win98se CD installation,
The scanner works but it ticks like a bomb all the time, very annoying
needless to say, i won't be buying epson again.
