Can't use DVD+RW

I've used a DVD+RW in the past to back-up my photos. I'm not sure if I've
done it before on this PC (I changed about 6 months ago).

When I put in the DVD+RW, it seems to read it as a CD. If I try to delete a
file, it gives an error about something being "read only".

When I try to add a folder, it says it can't do it on this "CD".

Thanks for any help.

Do you have a DVD writer on this computer?

Did you get software with the burner? XP by itself doesn't support DVD.
You'll need packet writing software.

Windows has no native ability to write to DVDs. Have you installed
appropriate software to do this?

Maybe not. However, on my old computer the DVD+RW would just show up as a
drive and I could drag and drop files. Are you saying that I would have to
go through another program to put files on the DVD or just that I need to
install drivers?

I'll look into installing the software...

Also, it seems like something is wrong because when I open the folder, it
says "Files on the CD". I am using a DVD+RW in my DVD+-RW drive.

Then you had installed software to do this. Otherwise it couldn't possibly
have worked.

Are you saying that I

Yes.

just that I need to install drivers?

No, not drivers. You need a program like Nero.

The exception would be DVD-RAM, XP can format DVD-RAM discs with the
FAT32 filesystem and write directly to them.
