Can't receive attachments:

I'm new to Vista but am having problems with Windows Mail. Just realised that
I can't receive attachments. I'm forwarding some mail from my desktop using
Outlook in XP to my laptop using Vista and 9 times out of 10 attachments
aren't being received. They don't show as blocked or anything they're just
not there. They are in the sent items on my desktop. I've turned off email
scanning in Norton and changed the settings re reading, etc, in windows mail
with absolutely no change. very grateful if anybody can help.

Outlook has a proprietary attachment format called RTF. Other email
programs can't handle RTF attachments. Make sure when you send an
attachment with Outlook to use plain text or regular HTML.

Hi Gary, unfortunately it's other people who are sending the attachments
normally so difficult to get them to change to different settings. Is there
nothing that I can do at the Vista end?

I think you can handle it by installing Outlook (version 2003 or
more recent) on your end. Not a very cheap solution, though.

If you can't change what other senders do, you will have to install
Outlook yourself. Outlook 2003 and later is fully Vista compatible.
