thanks Rainald i uninstalled IE8 ad went back to ie7 can open my
attachments now.

Thanks for the reply.
At present this is the only known solution.

For further investigations on the bug it would have been helpful,
however, to know which were the error messages.

Did you ever get an answer that worked. I also unclicked the DO NOT ALLOW
ATTACHMENTS, and it remained unclicked, but still cannot open attachments

There are hundreds of recent messages here about the inability to open
attachments.
Did you search this newsgroup?
If you open Internet Explorer browser and go to Help menu>about, what
version are you running, IE7 or IE8

I think most people that ask this question don't know how to search. So I
usually don't try to suggest that people search, even though I sure would if
the forum was a developer's group or a developer's forum such as the MSDN
forums. I am not saying you should not encourage people to search but we
probably need to explain how to do that.

But definitely, searching for previous answers is the most considerate and
productive way to find answers, especially for this specific question.

I for one think that *encouriging* people even in this NG would be most
helpful.

And it's that easy with WinMail - easier than ever before:
Just typing "atta" in the search box of WinMail will produce all of the
discussion OneNote "our" attachment bug!!!
