Since buying computer with Vista installed I have been unable to open or
save any attachment (.doc, .jpeg, .pdf, ) when using Windows Mail.
I have uncheck box at Tools/options/security/Do not allow attachments to be
saved or opened...
Any suggestions please?

Which antivirus are you using?
Windows Mail is not compatible with most McAfee
or Norton security programs. Those will need to be
uninstalled, not just disabled.

After uninstalling your non-compatible antivirus, download
and install a more compatible antivirus like the free Avast:
http://www.avast.com/eng/avast_4_home.html

Even compatible antivirus programs will need to have their
email scanning option turned off. For more on this topic see

Gary, I have exactly the same problem. I have AVG Anti-Virus. I have tried
turning the e-mail scanner off, which proved more difficult than I think it's
supposed to! I can still not open or save any attachments. Any more advice?

Long shot - I know if you select the option, as you did in the security
settings, then the attachment is viewable immediately, but I don't know what
happens when you do this with Virus protection (and they all may work
slightly differently). It could be that once examined during the mail the
download process it was marked, and turning off the Virus checking after the
download doesn't remove the marking and it's still being held from you. Are
new downloads with attachments ok?

Uninstall AVG.
Then reinstall it but choose Custom and uncheck Email protection or whatever
they call it.
