Can't Ping Certain Systems on Same Subnet

Installed Win2K Server SP4 on new system. No other software installed.
Configured network settings and joined domain. Tried to go to Internet
and got no response. Tried to ping gateway (core router) that is on
the same subnet and got all timeouts. Can ping and browse other
servers and workstations on the same subnet, but not the gateway.
Telnetted into the router and tried to ping the new server and got all
timeouts. I removed the NIC in the server and completely reinstalled
it, same results. Tried a different static IP, same results. Connected
a different system to the same ethernet cable and everything works
correctly. These 2 devices are not talking to each other, but I can go
to a 3rd system and talk to both the gateway and the new server.

Sorry but I gotta ask.... Are you pinging the IP or by name. If your by
name the make sure both are talking to the same WINS server.

I was pinging by ip. I found the problem, it was the arp cache in the
gateway router. It still had the mac address of the NIC in the server
associated with a different ip address. I cleared the arp and
everything started playing nicely together once again.
