Can't Ping All Stns Within The Same Subnet???

Having rather strange issues with networking within our
workgroup (it is purely a workgroup, no domain). A couple
of computers were using a share folder. This share
stopped working suddenly and the (2) computers can't see
one another anymore. They are on the same subnet but they
cannot ping each other.

Doing further testing, my computer, which is also on the
same subnet, cannot ping either of the (2) computers
either and they cannot ping my computer. However, we are
using the same router gateway and all computers can ping
the gateway and access the internet.

Amongst the (3) computers that I have referenced so far
they can ping other computers within the same subnet and
other computers can ping them but it seems that
connectivity is limited between some computers and not
others even though they are all on the same subnet??

Any ideas has to what is going on?

Thanks,

Earl.

What are the ip addresses of these machines? Sounds like they have somehow
subnetted themselves. Seems like too many machine having the issue to be
hardware problem but have to tried to reboot/restart your hubs or switches?

IP addresses are correct or some of them would not be able
to access internet. They all can. I've since queried the
event logs on some of the computers and have been
receiving messages regarding "computer XXXX believes he is
the browse master, initiating re-election". Is this
something that would prevent ping from working even though
IP address space is correct??

Thanks.
