Can't open multiple browser windows

I suddenly can't open multiple browser windows at once.
If I start another browser session or right click a link
and choose "Open in a new window", it will replace the
current Explorer window. since I find multiple browser
sessions very useful, this is very inconvenient. Anyone
know how to fix this?

I double checked and no other program has this problem,
just Explorer. I also tried removing and reinstalling
Explorer but it appears that it didn't completely
uninstall and I don't know how to complete that, having
already removed it through the Control Panel.

Thanks if you can help!

Hi,
From IE> Tools> Internet Options> Advanced> Browsing> uncheck "Reuse windows
for launching shortcuts."

And... you have a program running which is blocking pop-up windows-
something like Yahoo Companion, Google toolbar, a firewall, Earthlink (or
another) pop-up blocker, etc.

You'll have to uninstall the program or turn off the feature that's blocking
new windows.

With some programs of this type, using Ctrl+click or Shift+click will allow
a new window.

Ok, did all of that and it's still not working. I do have the McAfee Security center software package to protect from viruses and spyware, but I had the popup feature allowed when all of this started. I didn't change any settings on the computer as far as I'm aware. After your suggestion, I disabled McAfee completely to see if that would help and it didn't. I also ran multiple spyware programs including AdAware, SpyBot and the McAfee program, so the computer should be clean.

Any other suggestions?

Thanks!

Hi,
I haven't heard of a case where this wasn't caused by a third-party program.
Yahoo Companion is a frequent cause. Take a look at every program that's
running when this happens.
I don't know what I'd try next.

Thanks, Don!

I suppose I thought I was immune to Yahoo Companion because of the McAfee program and the two anti-spyware programs but I guess I was wrong because I found it when I went into Remove/Change Programs. I removed the program and now all is well! Thanks for solving a very annoying problem.
