Tabbed browsing in IE6 really sucks

I just had an IE6 browser crash because I switched to a new tab. The browser
just disappeared but Ctrl-Alt-Del showed that the 4 sessions running under my
4 tabs were still there. Trying to switch tasks to activate any of the 4
sessions didn't work - I had to kill the processes.

This is just one of other problems including orphaned explorer windows that
have no Minimize or Maximiize/Restore buttons in the top right corner (only a
non-functional red "X" button).

Usability is also very poor. Whenever I switch to a new tab, my Windows task
bar is re-order so that this browser task is now the most recently opened one
(last in the list) which means as a user I cannot keep a simple visual cue as
to where my running tasks are ( I lose my sequence of opening the windows).
TO illustrate further, let's say I open a browser and start several sessions
in several tabs. Then, I open another browser and several applications.
Normally, when I see my Windows task bar, I will see the buttons in order:

IE6 (multiple sessions in tabs)
IE6
App1
App2

As soon as I swithc tabs on my first IE6 session, the task buttons are
re-arranged so that they are in order:

IE6
App1
App2
IE6 (multiple sessions in tabs)

Firefox did their implementation MUCH better!

Another thing I forgot to mention regarding usability. IE6 only allows you to
save a set of bookmarks as a set to be displayed (those associated with the
little "house" icon). Again, Firefox did their implementation much better
where any set of related tabs can be saved as a set and retrieved later.

MS will never get it right, will they...

Oh and another thing. Firefox opens the tabs sequentially as I right-click on
links from one page and select "Open link in new tab". With IE6, if you
select to open as foreground tab or as background tab, it affects the
sequence that the tabs appear. Sometimes new tabs are not opened at the end
of the list of tabs but inserted somewhere in the middle. I haven't been able
to figure out how IE and Microsoft in their infinite wisdom decide the order
in which tabs should be opened.

Serious lack of usability. Did they conduct any studies prior to releasing
this crap or was done in such haste just to say "We have tabs too!!!"?

Take a look at Avant Browser. It's a tabbed shell for IE and only about 1MB
in size. It's free and has lots of great features <www.avantbrowser.com>

IE6 doesn't offer Tabbed Browsing. Are you running MSN Toolbar to get the
tabs?

isn't Internet Explorer: microsoft.public.msn.discussion
