Can't logon domain "*" is not available

This is what happens when I try and logon. There wasn't a PW needed before
and now it askes for one. It even does it in safe mode. It just makes no
sense. It has SP2. Why would the domain dissapear? It says the same domain
name is not available nomatter what account you try and open. Thanks in
advance for your help.

At the logon screen did you try hitting Ctrl+Alt+Del twice and logging
on just as Administrator withhout any domain name?

Yes, the problem is there a PW was never set up. We have tried just hitting
enter and nothing.
