Unable to logon please help

This is for my motherinlaw. She tells me that when she boots up the computer
it goes to the logon screen. She selects her account or any other for that
matter and instead of just going to the users account it now askes for a
password. She tries a few common ones and none at all. All she gets is The
domain "name" is not available. Should I have her try and start it in safe
mode and system restore?
I am not sure how updated the system is. I know it has sp2 but after that I
am unsure. Thank you for your time.

Start in Safe Mode.
Choose the user "Administrator" or type in the username "Administrator".
It likely has no password.

Once in Safe Mode and logged in - have her change the password for one of
the other (or all of the other) accounts.

Thank you for the reply. It unfortunatly it still told her the domain "*" is
not available even in safe mode. It showed that it has SP2. What would cause
a domain to become unavailable? I did find a hotfix from MS however I don't
know how get it installed if we can't logon. Thanks again for your time.
