Can't Logon

A friend had a 1 minute power failure and her computer turned off. When she
started it, she gets as far as the Logon screen and when she clicks of her
username it says loading settings, then right away says logging off, and it
comes back to the logon screen. We tried safe mode - not working. Any
ideas???!!! Thanks.
