Can't install anything

I can't seem to install software on my computer. About 9 out of 10
applications won't install. A couple weeks ago I bought a few games on
CD. One said setup could take several minutes. I waited 10 minutes,
nothing happened. Another one nothing happens when I put the CD in,
when I click on the CD nothing happens, when I right click I can open
the CD and click on setup or launch, but nothing happens. I tried
downloading some software to see what would happen. I get messages
like "the procedure entry point could not be located in the dynamic
link library." I have also gotten a couple messages that seem to
indicate that I can only install the software using an administrator
account, but I am using an administrator account. Windows keeps trying
to do a minor update and always fails. One of the programs starts
installation and by reading quickly I think it just stops shortly
after saying something about an install shield and doesn't give any
error message.

A couple weeks ago windows did an update and when I agreed to let it
restart my computer it didn't actually restart. I had to pull the plug
on it to get it to completely turn off so that I could start it back
up, I don't know whether that may be related.

I'm running Windows xp sp3, 3.25 gigs of ram, over 60 gigs available
on hard drive, I defragmented my computer last night, my computer
reports that the video card is working fine, and I just finished a
virus scan that found no viruses. Still the same problems as before.

Thanks very much if anyone has any ideas.

You need to be logged in as ADMINISTRATOR or a user with admin rights.
Can you confirm that you are the administrator or a user with these
rights? You can check this by going to:

START, CONTROL PANEL, USER ACCOUNTS,

Under your username there COULD be something called "Limited Account".
If so then you can't install any programs that needs to access WINDOWS
folder.

Hi
You are addressed your question to Network related Win XP group.
You might have better luck addressing the WinXP OS group.

Hi,
Now you were able to install your software if yes, go ahead, if no then My advice to you is try to install a fresh New OS in your computer and then install your softwares. If you are worried about your data's then try to install a new os in different location via disk boot up option then get your data back from your drive.

Thanks and Regards
