Can't delet items - can't install the patch

I can't delete items from the Deleted Items folder. It usually deletes
everytime I close and restart my computer. I have read other posts and tried
to install the patch that would fix this: Update for Windows Vista
(KB940199) I have a 32 bit system. I keep getting the message that it does
not apply to my system. (I tried the patch for the 64 bit system, just in
case, and got the same message.) I have a Dell Inspiron 1520 - running
WIndows Vista Home Premium - I have an Intel Core2 Duo DPU - T7250 @ 2.00 GHz
2.)) GHz 2.00 GB Ram 32-bit Pterating System I have Service Pack 1
installed.

This isn't my only VISTA problem. My computer freezes constantly for a
minute or two. This has happened since I got the computer a year ago. I am
so frustrated! Dell says that it is a Vista problem. (Tried changing
power settings to high performance and appearance from Windows areo - no
help.)

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

The reason the patch says 'not applicable' is because you have SP1.
Vista's SP1 already includes the patch.

I recommend you upgrade to the newer Windows Live Mail:

Your intermittent freezing problem may be caused by your antivirus, or
some other third party security software, which often is not fully Vista
compatible.

You can try compacting and repairing the database and see if that helps.
See www.oehelp.com/WMUtil/

As Gary indicates, you already have Vista SP1 and so the patch is already
installed.

Those new computers come stuffed with crap that is installed and slows down
the computer. You can go to Start | Search and type msconfig and then
disable startup items that you don't need to run at once when the computer
starts (apparently nearly all software vendors feel their programs need to
run at startup). Also you need to uninstall or at least disable email
scanning in some antivirus programs. See point 3 here:
